How does HoliPress work?

Think of HoliPress as a large metal syringe that is heated and into which plastic is inserted. When you press the end of the syringe, the molten plastic is injected into the mold. This is how the first industrial plastic injection presses worked!

Why use a manual injection press?

We have chosen to offer HoliPress in a manual version for several reasons:

Ease of use  : HoliPress does not require any configuration like on an industrial injection press. This means you can quickly go from the idea to the injected part.

Hazard limitation  : Since the injection is manual, it stops when there is no more action on the lever. Thus, HoliPress is a device and not a machine.

Understanding plastics processing  : Manual injection allows you to understand plastics processing, to understand the reaction of the very specific plastic material:

Viscosity  : Molten plastic remains 10,000 times more viscous than water! Manual injection allows you to realize this in relation to the effort to be exerted on the lever

Rheology  : The low injection pressure combined with the flexibility of use of HoliPress allows you to use PMMA injection molds. It is therefore possible to see the flow of material in the mold during injection!

Holding time, injection speed, etc  .: The main injection parameters must be managed manually, so it is possible to understand their importance in a short time.

What is the injectable volume with HoliPress?

You can inject up to 16cm3 with HoliPress 16, which represents a part between 14 and 16 grams and you can inject up to 38 grams with HoliPress 38, which represents a part between 36 and 38 grams depending on the density of the plastic used.

What are the main differences between HoliPress and a 3D printer?

Production speed : HoliPress can inject a part every 1 to 3 minutes

Material flexibility: HoliPress can inject the main plastic materials

Finished Parts: HoliPress can manufacture industrial quality injected parts

What are the main differences between HoliPress and industrial plastic injection?

Mold manufacturing flexibility: HoliPress can be used with SLA, FDM, machined, cut and laser engraved 3D printing molds, etc.

Quick setup: Mold change takes only a few minutes. HoliPress can inject a part 5 minutes after start-up.

Ease of use: No training is required to use HoliPress. The press comes with a machined mold allowing you to inject a first part a few minutes after unpacking.

I have doubts about the feasibility of my part, what do you suggest?

First, check that your part’s volume is well below the volume that can be injected with HoliPress.

Then, contact us. We can determine if the part is injectable in its current state and offer to conduct a feasibility study.

How do feasibility studies work?

We determine if your part is injectable, then we design the injection mold. The mold will then be printed in Formlabs resin.

We will then inject parts in our workshop using the material you are interested in or that most closely matches your requirements.

At the end of the process, we will send you the mold and the injected parts so you can make your selection.

What is the maximum size of injectable parts?

The size of the parts depends mainly on the injectable volume (38 cm3) as well as the injectable thickness. Indeed, depending on the viscosity of the materials, it is possible to have thicknesses between 0.3 and 6 mm.

Thus, and thanks to its design flexibility, HoliPress has no limit in mold size.

What material can HoliPress be used with?

HoliPress is mainly used with thermoplastic materials (which melt with heat).

HoliPress can inject the main plastic materials on the market. A study with a laboratory is underway to determine the viscosity limits with which HoliPress can work.
